Home faces north 345 degrees. This is a four level split level home. Entrance is on the ground level (second floor). The focus here is the third level which contains the living room, dining room and kitchen.
I do not like that the kitchen is so isolated from the living room.(Breakfast bar) I also want to retain the separate dining but somehow have a constant flow from the dining room to the kitchen. And a breakfast bar or something uniting the living room and the kitchen. The kitchen itself is a 10x10 space. The link above shows pictures. Looking at the front of the home I would like to have a shed type roof, with windows, over the entire third level (living, dining and kitchen level). I want the new roof to fall inline with the existing roof, on the fourth/ top level, making the ceiling over the living, dining and kitchen area taller. Then a skylight of some sort to allow the sun to shine into the home in the morning. There is a large deck on the back of the home adjacent to the kitchen. I am open to either exposed rafters or covered rafters does not matter. I love hard wood floors. Butcher block surfaces are a plus. Make this area a gathering place but at the same time be able to distinctively determine the difference between each room. Keep it functional!
