We just took down the wall between our kitchen and family room. We have a nook that is 86" wide and 27" deep in which we want to build a closet (previously we used the space as a family room and the nook had a built-in entertainment center).
The ceiling height is 114". The top of the windows (without casing) are at 89" and we may want to fit the closet into the 86" x 89" space (and then finish the space above 89" as a regular wall, which is what is shown in the Sketchup).
==> Please weigh in on overall closet height
Functionally, we want
- a broom closet on the right side
- a 18" wide microwave on the left side
- a "charging station" for cell phones, etc for our family of 5
Attached are pictures of the space and of the existing cabinets in the original kitchen. A Sketchup I did is also attached (we also took down the wall between the DR and LR and made some other changes ... attached is a drawing of the work done).
My big problem is tying together the functional inside of the closest and the doors, and how to conveniently access the charging station (with or without opening a door/drawer???). And we want the doors / front to look good! We are very open to splashes of color. The existing cabinets on the working side of the kitchen are Cement Grey. We ordered a Room and Board Rand table with a Bright White Quartz top (60 x 36) and are planning to get 6 Sabrina chairs (colors not yet determined). We are installing a new counter/bar on the back of the range (6" higher than the range) and are planning to use white Glasos. The appliances are stainless steel.
The unit will be built by a local cabinet maker (builder not yet chosen).
