The main idea behind the great room is that it remains open yet subtly compartmentalized. The three compartments of the great room include the Kitchen, the Entertainment Area, and the Study Corner. Each compartment is a part of the whole, but maintains its own privacy. The Kitchen overlooks the entire space, but is bounded by the granite counter top. The Study Corner and Entertainment Area enjoy the main axis of the plan, but are separated from each other by a bookcase that extends from the window wall. The purpose of this design is to bring a clean style and functionality to the space, while staying on a very reasonable budget. Many other ideas and designs will require huge expense and major overhaul to make a useful space. While that idea is very appealing, it is more effective to make smart, and sensible changes. The space is currently very unique and attractive, and does not require major changes. Minor yet purposeful decisions can bring this space into the modern era, and be very affordable.
