Furnishing elements have been kept at a smaller scale to allow the various pieces to work together in creating a cohesive, contemporary feel. Selections have been compiled from standard retail stores to ensure costs are in keeping with residential standards and easily available to most locations or online. A balance of light and dark finishes will help to create a rich, inviting space, while use of deep colors bring the palette to life.
The Lounge seat selected allows for great flexibility in the space as it can swivel for TV viewing, or back toward seating for conversation. The small Hex tables can be grouped for coffee table use, or sprinkled throughout the room to allow more open floor space. The bench allows openness in the room, as well as maintaining the view toward the fireplace. It can easily be moved to the nearby window to allow open floor space when needed.
The beauty of the concrete fireplace surround offers versatility with many styles and finishes, as well as the striking look of a natural product. I have included information for 2 suppliers of this product and will be available to help with any details needed to install, upon selection.
I would recommend removal of the existing wall sconces over the mantel. Patch the existing wall surfaces to new condition, and replace lighting with recessed ceiling fixtures with the capability of accenting art over the mantel, or position directly down for more ambient lighting. While lighting over the mantle can provide a classic beauty in homes, it can detract from a clean contemporary look. I have included an image from Lamps plus which is a directional, recessed low voltage fixture. Couple these with coordinating recessed downlights for general lighting throughout the room.
