The area to be landscaped consists of a hardscaped parking area, entrance walkway leading to a canopied porch and a small front yard. The project goal is to improve the 'curb appeal' of the property by landscaping these areas to create a clean, functional contemporary space that is complementary to both the property facade and to the decor of recently refurbished ground floor interior (photographs supplied).
Project Criteria and Design Considerations
In terms of a design steer, I do not want to be too prescriptive but it should be contemporary and unfussy. I do like contemporary Japanese garden designs but I would not want something overtly Japanese (I.e. like a novelty Japanese tea garden). I've attached a few images that I've gathered over the months as inspiration but I am very content to consider something different altogether (provided it is consistent with the criteria specified!)
The areas should be mainly hardscaped but I would like the design to be softened with some (reasonably low maintenance) planting (which could include plants in pots and/or a few small plant beds). Designs can include any materials for hard surfacing natural stone paving, decking, gravel).
I am very interested to see how contemporary lighting could be subtly used to enhance the design in evening settings. There is a power supply to the exterior of the property to facilitate this. I am particularly interested in the use of 'soft' accent (indirect/diffused etc) lighting.
Currently, two garbage bins are stored in the yard area. The design should include a bin store (with perhaps a little additional storage for brushes etc) so that the bins can be stored out of sight (the dimensions of each bins is H1005mm x W600mm x L700mm)
The porch area needs attention and designed so it is inkeeping with the new contemporary front door.
The area is compact (approx 30 square metres or 322 square foot) so the design should consider how to best work the space into a clean, uncluttered design.
The two boundary fences cannot be removed but the central fence can go if required. The manhole for water services cannot be moved or permanently covered but could be concealed with moveable materials/objects.
I have some budget to reclad the French navy canopy cladding so feel free to give me some ideas (albeit they would have to be quite conservative as all the neighbouring homes have either grey or white)
I hate the poured concrete in the yard so would like to see designs where it is covered or dug up!
I plan to do some of the landscaping work myself but will use professionals where required (electrical, joinery etc)
