We would like to consider a few different ideas about how best to manage the landscaping in front of our house assuming we move ahead with a renovation project which would include a front porch which would protrude from the front of the house by about 10 feet. We show the porch on the dimensional plans that are included. The front walls of the house will be in the same place as they are now (with a very slight change to the entry way).
The issue is that the house sits on top of a fairly steep hill. The house has a first floor elevation of approximately 213.5. Down the hill from the front of the house, approximately 45 feet away at the end of our lot (there is maybe 10 feet or so between the end of our lot and the street), the elevation is about 201. So the hill up to the house is somewhat steep and with a porch protruding 10 feet out from the house we are a bit worried about how it might appear from the street. A topographic survey with the elevations is included in the materials in both .dwg format and .pdf format.
We are hoping to come up with some ways for the landscaping to help the new larger house with porch look good and proportional with the surroundings. There is also a small left side yard that could use a bit of attention but the main focus should be on the front side where porch will be.
Some kinds of ideas would include terracing or just using different plants, etc.
We are open to all kinds of ideas as the point of this project is as an idea generator for us. Once we settle on the big idea we can then work to refine it further. So general sketches/pictures of your idea(s) are all that is really needed.
Are there ways to make the porch and house with it less obtrusive? We are hoping to find some...
Finally, feel free to adjust the space around the driveway if you wish. The stairs up to the house as shown in the elevations are an idea of what it could look like but feel free to use your own design for the stairs if you wish.
